The Toronto Blue Jays placed shortstop Jose Reyes on the 15-day disabled list with a cracked rib, the team announced.

In a corresponding move, the team called up infielder Jonathan Diaz from Triple-A Buffalo prior to Tuesday's game against the Boston Red Sox.

Reyes suffered small crack in his left rib in an April 12 game against the Baltimore Orioles, and he missed the entire series against the Atlanta Braves a week later. He had played in six of Toronto’s last seven games, and upon a return to the lineup on April 21, the switch-hitting Reyes only batted from the right side.

He has three hits in his last 23 at-bats, seeing his batting average drop more than 50 points.

Toronto’s offense got a boost on Monday from outfielder Jose Bautista, who returned to the lineup against Boston after missing the previous five games with a sore shoulder.

For the season, Reyes is batting .250 with no home runs and seven RBI in 16 games for Toronto, who are in last place in the American League East.
