Yankees to place Jacoby Ellsbury on 15-day DL with right knee injury
The New York Yankees will place centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury on the 15-day disabled list after he left Tuesday's game with a right knee injury, according to a report by the YES Network. The team confirmed the report to Newsday.
Outfielder Slade Heathcott will be called up from Triple A to replace Ellsbury on the roster.
Ellsbury left Tuesday's game in the fourth inning after rounding the base paths and eventually scoring on a Chris Young RBI single. He appeared to tweak his knee during a swing in his at-bat earlier in the inning.
Ellsbury has battled several injuries this season, including a hip injury that held him out of games at the end of April and an oblique injury that sidelined him during spring training.
In 36 games this season heading into Tuesday's game against the Washington Nationals, Ellsbury has hit .324 with one home run and six RBIs.
Heathcott, a 2009 first-round draft pick, will make his major league debut with the call-up. Heathcott has hit .280 at Triple A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season with one home run and 17 RBIs.
