The St. Louis Cardinals placed leftfielder Matt Holliday on the disabled list with a strained right quadriceps. Holliday left Monday night's game against the Colorado Rockies with an apparent leg injury.
Right-handed reliever Miguel Socolovich was called up from Triple A to replace Holliday on the roster.
Holliday left Monday night's game against the Colorado Rockies after he was injured in the bottom of the second inning while charging in on a shallow fly ball. He tripped, fell to the ground and immediately began clutching his knee, rolling on the ground in pain.
Holliday, who has not batted over .300 since 2010, is batting .305 with a team-high .419 on-base percentage.
The Cardinals are already without one of their middle-of-the-order bats, as Matt Adams could potentially miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn quad.
