Cardinals place Matt Holliday (quad) on 15-day DL
Tuesday June 9th, 2015

The St. Louis Cardinals have placed leftfielder Matt Holliday on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right quadriceps, the team announced Tuesday.

Right-handed reliever Miguel Socolovich was called up from Triple A to replace Holliday on the roster.

Holliday left Monday night's game against the Colorado Rockies after he was injured in the bottom of the second inning while charging in on a shallow fly ball. He tripped, fell to the ground and immediately began clutching his knee, rolling on the ground in pain.

Holliday was eventually able to return to his feet and walked off the field, slowly but unassisted. Jon Jay replaced him in the lineup, playing centerfield. Randal Grichuk moved from center to left.

Holliday, who has not batted over .300 since 2010, is batting .305 with a team-high .419 on-base percentage.

The Cardinals are already without one of their middle-of-the-order bats, as Matt Adams could potentially miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn quad.
