The Washington Nationals have placed first baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the disabled list with left foot plantar fasciitis, the team announced Thursday.

The Nationals recalled outfielder Matt den Dekker to replace Zimmerman on the active roster.

Zimmerman has been playing through foot troubles all year, according to TheWashington Post, but Washington eventually grew concerned the injury was affecting his hitting. Zimmerman is hitting .209 with five homes runs and a .611 OPS this season and is 1-25 since May 31.

Tyler Moore and Clint Robinson will likely split time at first base in Zimmerman's absence. Moore is hitting .181 on the season, and Robinson stands at .239.
