After Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz was ejected Saturday night against the Kansas City Royals, he tried to turn the tables on home plate umpire Bruce Dreckman.

During an at-bat in the seventh inning at Kauffman Stadium, Ortiz took issue with two outside pitches that Dreckman called as strikes. After singling to center, Ortiz flipped his bat toward the Red Sox dugout and appeared to have some words for Dreckman while standing on first base.

After Ortiz waved off Dreckman’s reply, Dreckman responded with the ejection. Red Sox manager John Farrell came out to argue with Dreckman, and before long Ortiz had returned to home plate to join the dispute.

Then came one of the more memorable player reactions to an ejection in recent memory: Ortiz “tossing” Dreckman himself.

Ortiz went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk before the ejection. The Royals won 7–4.
