Yankees catcher Brian McCann hit a walk-off, three-run home run in the 12th inning to give New York a 7–5 win over the Tampa Bay Rays Friday night at Yankee Stadium.
McCann, who came to the plate 0-for-4 and with one out in the inning, lined a 93 mph fastball from Rays righthander Steve Geltz to right field, bringing home Gregorio Petit and Mark Teixeira for the Yankees’ second straight win and a one-game lead over the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East.
Lefthander Chasen Shreve, who gave up both hits but only inherited one run, picked up the win for New York.
The home run was McCann’s 13th of the season. He is now hitting .264 with 52 RBIs and an .810 OPS in his second season with the Yankees.
