Johnny Cueto made his first start at Kauffman Stadium as a member of the Kansas City Royals on Monday and threw a complete-game, four-hit shutout, as the Royals beat the Detroit Tigers 4–0.

Cueto struck out eight and did not issue a walk. Only three Detroit batters reached base safely: J.D. Martinez hit a double, Anthony Gose had a single and Jefry Marte added two singles.

Cueto has now thrown six complete games the past two seasons. He also had a two-hit shutout on July 7 while playing for the Cincinnati Reds

After the game, Cueto’s catcher, Salvador Perez, celebrated by dousing his team’s new ace with Gatorade.

The win extended Kansas City’s division lead over the Minnesota Twins to 12.5 games, by far the largest margin in the majors.
