Athletics pitcher Barry Zito will start Saturday’s game against the Giants and former A’s teammate Tim Hudson, the team announced Tuesday, in what could be Zito’s final career start.

Zito, Hudson and Mark Mulder anchored Oakland’s rotation during the franchise’s peak at the start of the last decade. Mulder, currently an ESPN analyst, will be on hand Saturday as well.

Zito, 37, spent all of this season in Triple A until Oakland called him up last week. The team had originally said that Zito would only be used as bullpen help, but Ken Rosenthal of Foxsports.com reported that the A’s wanted to pitch him against Hudson.

Hudson said earlier this month that this will be his last season in the majors. Zito said he had “turned the page on the game” after the Triple A season, only to receive a call from the A’s eight days later.

Zito pitched eight seasons with the A’s and seven with the Giants, ending in 2013. Hudson spent six seasons in Oakland, followed by nine with the Braves and has spent the past two years with the Giants.
