The Los Angeles Angels have hired Billy Eppler as their new general manager, the team announced Sunday night.

The Los Angeles Times’ Bill Shakin reported the news first.

Eppler is currently the Yankees assistant general manager, a position he was promoted to after the 2011 season. Eppler has been with New York since after the 2004 season, when he joined the front office as a scout.

Eppler interviewed with the San Diego Padres for their GM job last season. He turned down a chance to interview with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
