Blue Jays’ Edwin Encarnacion exits ALCS Game 1 with sprained finger
Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion left Friday’s ALCS Game 1 against the Kansas City Royals with a ligament sprain in his left middle finger and is day-to-day, according to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.
Encarnacion was sent for an X-ray after an injury to his finger, which came back negative. It’s not clear whether or not the injury was pre-existing.
The 32-year-old was lifted from the game with two on and one out in the top of the eighth inning for pinch-hitter Justin Smoak. Smoak fouled out against Royals reliever Ryan Madson, and Chris Colabello followed with a groundout to end the inning.
Encarnacion hit .333 with an OPS of 1.034 in the team’s ALDS win over the Rangers. He was 0 for 3 with a strikeout on Friday before leaving.
The Royals topped the Blue Jays 5–0 to take a 1–0 series lead.
