The Philadelphia Phillies have hired Matt Klentak as their new general manager, the team announced Monday.

Klentak previously served as the Los Angeles Angels’ assistant general manager. The Phillies fired their previous GM, Ruben Amaro Jr., on September 10.

Klentak has also spent time in the front office with the Baltimore Orioles and Colorado Rockies. Klentak interviewed for the Angels’ GM position earlier this year, but the team hired Billy Eppler.

The Phillies finished 2015 at 63–99, their second straight year in last place in the NL East. Philadelphia has missed the playoffs each season since 2011, when the team won 102 games and lost in the NLDS.
