A’s P Sean Doolittle hosts Syrian refugee families for Thanksgiving

A’s pitcher Sean Doolittle and his girlfriend, along with Chicago mayor Rahm Emmanuel, hosted the city’s 17 Syrian refugee families for Thanksgiving dinner.

Oakland Athletics pitcher Sean Doolittle and his girlfriend Eireann Dolan traveled to Chicago for Thanksgiving in order to help host the city’s 17 Syrian refugee families.

The pitcher and his partner, along with mayor Rahm Emmanuel and several city aldermen, helped provide a traditional Thanksgiving feast for the group, which has resettled in Illinois after being driven from their home country by war. Dolan wrote on her Instagram page that they hoped to welcome the immigrants with “with one of our greatest American traditions, Thanksgiving.”

The dinner which was organized by the Syrain Community Network and included more than 70 refugees, over half of which were children, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Dolan wrote an essay on her blog about her own family’s immigration inspiring her to help the Syrian refugees in her hometown of Chicago.
