Report: Nationals agree to deal with pitcher Yusmeiro Petit
The Washington Nationals have agreed to a one-year deal with pitcher Yusmeiro Petit, reports Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
The deal is reportedly pending a physical. Petit was non-tendered earlier this month by the San Francisco Giants after posting a 3.67 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 76 innings last season. The 31-year-old righthander has thrown both as a starter and reliever in his eight-year career with the Giants, Diamondbacks and Marlins.
Petit holds the MLB records for consecutive batters retired (46) and consecutive perfect innings pitched (15 1/3), both set in 2014 with San Francisco. He holds a career 4.59 ERA and 1.27 WHIP.
The Nationals have worked to upgrade their bullpen this offseason, reportedly adding relievers Shawn Kelley and Oliver Perez.
