Pirates centerfielder Andrew McCutchen broke out of a slump in a big way Tuesday, crushing three home runs against the Rockies at Coors Field.

McCutchen, the 2013 National League MVP, entered Tuesday hitting .213, with only two home runs so far this season, In one game, McCutchen eclipsed his homer total by raking three shots over the fence at Coors in his first five at-bats.

The Pirates needed McCutchen’s theatrics, having entered Tuesday at 11–9, 3 1/2 games behind the Cubs for the early division lead.
