The Houston Astros placed outfielder Carlos Gomez on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised left rib cage, the team announced on Tuesday.

Gomez has played in just 34 games this season and is hitting .182 with no home runs, five RBIs and five stolen bases, striking out 46 times in 132 plate appearances. The Astros have retroactively set his disabled list stint to Monday, which means that he can return as early as May 31.

To replace Gomez on the active roster, the Astros called up infielder Colin Moran from Triple A Fresno on Tuesday morning. The No. 6 pick of the 2013 draft by the Marlins, Moran has hit .288 with seven doubles, three home runs and 22 RBIs in 32 games for the Grizzlies.

Houston also recalled catcher Evan Gattis from Double A Corpus Christi and designated righthanded pitcher Asher Wojciechowski for assignment.
