Jose Bautista's one-game suspension for his role in the fight against Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor has been upheld by Major League Baseball.

Bautista will serve the suspension on Friday night as the Toronto Blue Jays host the Boston Red Sox.

The Blue Jays star is hitting .238 with 10 homer runs and 34 RBIs for Toronto this season.

Odor initially received an eight-game suspension, which was reduced to seven games on appeal.

The fight started behind second base after Bautista, who was hit by a pitch from Rangers reliever Matt Bush to start the inning, committed a late slide while Odor was attempting to turn a double play. Odor immediately reacted, pushed Bautista and then landed a punch as they both moved forward.

As a result of the May 15 fight, Bautista, Odor, Toronto third baseman Josh Donaldson and Texas bench coach Steve Buechele were ejected from the game.
