The Seattle Mariners have placed righthander Felix Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right calf, the team announced Wednesday.

To replace Hernandez on their roster, the Mariners have recalled lefthander James Paxton from Triple A Tacoma. Paxton is scheduled to start Wednesday against the San Diego Padres. The 27-year-old has a 12–8 record and 3.16 ERA in the MLB in 30 career starts.

Hernandez, 30, has a 4–4 record this season in 10 starts, with a 2.86 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 63 innings. The 2010 Cy Young Award winner is Seattle’s all-time leader in career strikeouts and wins.
