Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli will miss four to six weeks after undergoing surgery, the Pirates announced Saturday.

Cervelli needed surgery after breaking the hamate bone in his left hand. Cervelli sustained the injury during Pittsburgh’s 9–3 loss to the Cardinals on Friday and was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

With the injury to Cervelli, the Pirates also announced Saturday they traded for catcher Erik Kratz from the Angels in exchange for cash.

Cervelli is in his second season with the Pirates after playing 130 games for Pittsburgh last year. Through 49 games this season, Cervelli was hitting .257 with 21 RBIs.
