San Francisco Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner will not compete at the home run derby after the MLBPA lobbied against the idea, reports Andrew Baggarly of Bay Area News Group.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said  MLB and the players association plan to revisit the topic of pitchers hitting in the home run derby for next season.

The news comes on the same day that Bochy decided to have Bumgarner become the first pitcher since 1976 to hit during an interleague game in an AL stadium.

Bumgarner is considered one of the top hitting pitchers in baseball, having won the Silver Slugger in 2014 and 2015.

The 27-year-old is hitting .175 with two home runs this season. He leads all pitchers in home runs over the last three seasons, with 11 in 183 at bats.
