The Red Sox have placed closer Craig Kimbrel on the disabled list with a medial meniscus tear in his left knee, the team announced.

Kimbrel will have surgery and is expected to miss 3–6 weeks. The Red Sox acquired Diamondbacks closer Brad Ziegler in a trade late Friday night, but manager John Farrell indicated to reporters that Koji Uehara is likely to close in the interim.

Kimbrel made the All-Star team but will miss the game, after registering a 3.55 ERA and converting 17 of 19 save chances. He tweaked his knee during warmups before Friday’s game.

The Red Sox recalled righthander Noe Ramirez in a corresponding move. Boston entered Saturday with a record of 47–38.
