The Miami Marlins have internally discussed signing Alex Rodriguez, reports Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

Despite their discussions, the Marlins are not likely to sign the soon-to-be retired slugger, according to the report.

Earlier this week, Rodriguez announced he would retire after playing his final game with the Yankees on Friday. Rodriguez said he would then return to Miami—where he lives in the off-season—before re-joining New York next season as a special adviser.

Rodriguez played high school baseball in Florida and was committed to the University of Miami before he was drafted by the Mariners in 1993.

Rodriguez’s end with the Yankees has not come without small controversy, as manager Joe Girardi has mostly held Rodriguez out of the lineup before his final game.

Rodriguez is hitting .203 this season. He entered Thursday four home runs shy of 700 for his career.
