Alex Rodriguez has said he is “done” as a player, although he still could change his mind, reports John Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball.

Rodriguez’s publicist Ron Berkowitz said in a statement Monday that A-Rod would not sign with another team for the remainder of the season, which prompted some speculation about whether he could return for the 2017 season. However, Rodriguez has reportedly told friends that he is done.

Rodriguez was released by the Yankees on Saturday after playing his final game with the team on Friday. He cleared waivers Monday afternoon and became a free agent. The 41-year-old hit .200/.247/.351 with nine home runs and 31 RBIs in 65 games for New York this season and is four home runs shy of 700 for his career.

The Marlins had expressed interest in Rodriguez, but Berkowitz said A-Rod would be taking the rest of 2016 to “relax and hang with his family and friends.”
