The Miami Marlins hosted a memorial service for pitcher Jose Fernandez, who was killed over the weekend in a boat crash along with two close friends.
Fans were invited to gather outside of Marlins Park for the departure of his funeral motorcade.
Friends and family of the 24-year-old pitcher surrounded his motorcade wearing white shirts that read RIP.
The Fernandez family has asked for charitable contributions to the JDF16 Foundation instead of donating flowers. The family has decided to put Fernandez's body on display at St. Brendan Catholic Church from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
His funeral will be held Thursday but is not open to the public.
Emilio Macias and Eduardo Rivero, who also died in the accident, will also have public viewings at other funeral homes in the Miami area.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
