Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton hit his 50th home run of the season.

Stanton smacked a 2-1 pitch from Clayton Richard in Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres.

Stanton is the first major league player to hit 50 home run in a season since Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis hit 53 in 2013 and the first National League player to accomplish the feat since Prince Fielder hit 50 for Milwaukee in 2007.

Davis, Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista and Stanton are the only players to hit 50 or more homers in a season this decade.

The 27-year-old Stanton continued his torrid August, as he has 17 homers this month, which has him tied with Willie Mays and Sammy Sosa for the most by an NL player in August.
