Dodgers’ Trayce Thompson Makes Statcast History in Three Home Run Game

Trayce Thompson stole the show in Los Angeles on Saturday night, crushing three homers in the Dodgers’ 10–1 win over the Diamondbacks. The outfielder accumulated eight RBIs, more than double of what any other player had in the game. 

In the process, Thompson also accomplished a feat that seems almost impossible. The 32-year-old’s three home runs had the exact same exit velocity: 107.5 mph.

According to MLB.com’s Sarah Langs, it it is the first time since Statcast began tracking exit velocity that a player’s home runs had the same exit velocity in one game.

While Statcast has only been tracking these kind of numbers since 2015, it is hard to imagine the occurrence has happened frequently, if at all. 

J.D. Martinez also hit a home run in the game—and he had an exit velocity of 107.4 mph, just a tenth of a point off of Thompson’s homers.

Thompson’s three home runs on Saturday night ties him with Rockies first baseman C.J. Cron for the early league-lead in home runs. But, no matter what happens the rest of the way, he will always have this unique performance to admire.
