Luis Arráez Becomes First Marlins Player to Hit for Cycle

The 2022 AL batting champion is off to a scorching hot start for his new team.

Luis Arráez became the first player in Marlins franchise history to hit for the cycle on Tuesday, recording a double in the first inning, a triple in the sixth inning, a home run in the seventh inning and a single in the eighth inning against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

That helped Miami (5–7) defeat the reigning National League champions on the road by a score of 8–4 and continued Arráez’s scorching hot start. The infielder has racked up 22 hits with one home run in 41 at-bats to record a slash line of .537/.596/.732, making him the MLB leader in batting average and on-base percentage. He’s the only player in the majors to get on base in at least half of his at-bats nearly two weeks into the season.

The 26-year-old came to the Marlins from the Twins in a trade for pitcher Pablo López in January. The ’22 All-Star was one of Minnesota’s best hitters, batting over .300 in three of his four seasons with the franchise and leading the American League in batting average last year.
