Yankees Manager Aaron Boone Admits Red Sox Have ‘Kicked Our Ass’
The Yankees suffered their eight consecutive loss on Sunday, falling to the rival Red Sox to cement the franchise’s worst losing streak since 1995.
After the game, which capped off a series sweep for Boston, New York manager Aaron Boone made a brutally honest admission on the state of this year’s AL East rivalry matchup.
Speaking to reporters, Boone admitted the Red Sox have had the upper hand on the Yankees and didn't mince his words.
“They’ve kicked our ass,” said Boone, via Brendan Kuty. “We’ve played a handful of competitive games that have come down to the end where they’ve taken us. We just haven’t been good enough.”
Sunday’s loss marked the Yankees’ eighth defeat in nine games against the Red Sox this season. New York will have one more chance for revenge, with their final four-game series against Boston slated for Sept. 11–14 at Fenway Park.
The Yankees were outscored 20–9 in their previous three games against the Red Sox. With a 60–64 record, the team is last in the American League East, 17 games out of first place and six games behind Boston, who is in fourth. A wild-card berth continues to fall farther out of reach, too, as New York is now nine games back of a playoff spot.
