Buster Posey Returns to Florida State to Earn Degree
Giants legend Buster Posey is a three-time World Series champion, a five-time MLB All-Star and an NL MVP, but one accomplishment has eluded him: his college degree. Now, he’s taking it upon himself to complete his résumé.
Posey told the Tallahassee Democrat’s Jim Henry he re-enrolled at Florida State, and his fall semester started Monday. The 36-year-old is enrolled in two courses: New Media and Social Change and Sports and Society.
“I’ve kicked the tires on this for awhile,” Posey told Henry. “I’ve been going back and forth but finally committed to it a few months ago. I am a little nervous about it.
“I have to up my technological skills,” he continued.
Posey is on the one-year track to earn a Interdisciplinary Social Science degree. The major provides an “integrated social science perspective on social issues, public policy and public affairs,” according to the university’s academic program guide. Posey was last enrolled at FSU 15 years ago before he signed with San Francisco, which drafted him in 2008.
After his MLB playing career, Posey moved back to his home state of Georgia but recently returned to California with his family. In September 2022, Posey joined the 30-member ownership group of the Giants. He also serves on its board of directors.
The Giants legend is one of the best catchers to ever play the game, but he said he made the decision to return to school because he wants to be a good role model for his children.
“It’s going to take some work, but it would certainly be (an achievement) to feel good about,” he said.
