David Ortiz Couldn’t Resist Trolling Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez Over 2004 ALCS Comeback
After the Rangers took a 2–0 lead over the Astros in the ALCS on Monday, Fox Sports’s Derek Jeter was quick to pump the brakes at any notion that the series was over for Houston. In doing so, his coworker and former arch-rival David Ortiz couldn’t help himself and reminded Jeter of a very painful memory.
“Just because they’re down two games, it’s not over,” Jeter said Monday night. “We’ve lost a series being up 3–0. I don’t want to bring it back up, but we’ve lost a series up 3–0.”
“You did?!” Ortiz said sarcastically.
Of course, Ortiz was poking fun at Jeter and Alex Rodriguez for the infamous 2004 ALCS when the Red Sox came back from a 3–0 deficit over the Yankees to shock the world on their way to a World Series victory. No team in MLB history had ever come back from a 3–0 deficit prior to that, and it hasn't happened since either.
The Astros will look to avoid falling into a deeper hole in Game 3 scheduled for Wednesday at 8:03 p.m. ET on FS1.
