Diamondbacks Star Ketel Marte Breaks MLB Record for Longest Postseason Hit Streak

The Arizona second baseman broke a tie with three former All-Stars.

In a World Series game where the Diamondbacks' offense came roaring to life, Arizona second baseman Ketel Marte etched his name in baseball history.

Marte's two-run single off Rangers pitcher Martín Pérez in the top of the eighth in Saturday’s Game 2 marked the 18th straight postseason game in which Marte has gotten a hit—the longest streak in MLB history.

The single broke a tie with three former All-Stars who hit safely in 17 straight playoff games: Yankees and Athletics right fielder Hank Bauer, Hall of Fame Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and outfielder Manny Ramírez.

Marte, an All-Star himself with the Diamondbacks in 2019, began his streak all the way back in the National League wild card game on Oct. 4, 2017. Then just 23 years old, Marte went 3-for-5 with two triples as Arizona defeated the Rockies 11–8.

He has hit safety in every playoff game he’s played since, amassing a lifetime postseason batting average of .350 in 82 plate appearances.
