Mariners Land Jorge Polanco in Trade With Twins
The Seattle Mariners made a splash on Monday night, acquiring second baseman Jorge Polanco from the Minnesota Twins.
While the clubs have yet to confirm the deal, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports that Polanco is heading to the Mariners in exchange for four players—reliever Justin Topa, righty Anthony DeSclafani and prospects Gabriel Gonzalez and Darren Bowen—as well as cash.
Polanco has been with the Twins his entire career, first called up to the majors in 2014. He has been a steady bat at the top of Minnesota’s lineup since '16, playing both second base and shortstop. Polanco’s one All-Star appearance came in '19, when he finished the season with a .295/.356/.485 slash line, 22 home runs and 79 RBIs.
Knee and hamstring injuries kept Polanco bouncing on and off the injured list through the early part of the 2023 season, but he would ultimately wind up playing 80 games, hitting 14 home runs and 48 RBIs over that span.
