Cardinals Players Blast ‘Cheap’ New Jerseys for 2024 MLB Season

Major League Baseball has made a key change for 2024, as the league and Nike are introducing a new style of jersey for the players this year. That means that there will be subtle changes to each team’s jersey, but some players are not giving great reviews to the new products.

The St. Louis Cardinals got a first look at their jerseys for this year, which include a different name template. However, players complained that the new jerseys lacked consistency, as Miles Mikolas said that they didn’t fit as well as the previous jerseys did.

“They look cheap,” a different player told Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat.

Nike and Fanatics have been partners on MLB’s jerseys for the past four years, but Nike is the primary decision-maker for the designs. In an MLB press release, the league and Nike announced the new jerseys as Nike Vapor Premier jerseys that are meant to “improve mobility, moisture management and fit.”

The jerseys were used at the All-Star Game last season, and the league decided to make them the permanent style this year. Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado was quoted in the release, and he is one of several players that support the new jerseys.

“It’s almost like wearing my favorite shirt out on the field—and so easy to move around in,” he said.

Every team will get a chance to break in their new jerseys this spring, as MLB is hoping players will get used to them over time. However, the early reviews are not exactly a great sign of things to come.
