Yankees Acquire Kirk Cousins's Doppelganger Cousin in Trade With White Sox
The newest member of the New York Yankees' bullpen bears a striking resemblance to new Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins. As it turns out, they're related.
The Yankees acquired Jake Cousins in a trade with the Chicago White Sox in exchange for cash considerations, the team announced on Sunday. Cousins, 29, is a right-handed relief pitcher who also happens to be the cousin of the renowned NFL quarterback.
He had briefly been assigned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre but he was called up and inserted into the bullpen ahead of New York's clash against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night. The Yankees optioned left-handed pitcher Tanner Tully in order to clear space for Cousins on the 26-man roster.
Jake Cousins was drafted by the Washington Nationals in 2017 in the 20th round of the MLB Draft. At the time, Kirk was the quarterback for Washington, and he welcomed his cousin to D.C. with a celebratory tweet.
They do look pretty similar:
Jake Cousins spent the last three seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, featuring in a total of 51 games. He owns a career ERA of 3.08 and has struck out an impressive 72 batters in 52 2/3 innings.
