Dodgers, Padres Combine to Hit Eight Home Runs in Wild Extra-Innings Affair
The 49,606 fans in attendance at Dodger Stadium on Friday night witnessed a home run derby between the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The two clubs combined to belt eight dingers in an 11-inning game that featured multiple lead changes, and ultimately resulted in an 8-7 Padres victory.
The NL West rivals immediately began trading blows, as six baseballs left the park in the first three innings of action. The Padres took a 2-0 lead on a first-inning, Manny Machado homer only to see the Dodgers storm back to a 5-3 edge on the scoreboard thanks to homers by Shohei Ohtani, Max Muncy and Mookie Betts.
San Diego trailed 7-3 after three innings, but stormed back to tie the game in the seventh inning on a - you guessed it - Fernando Tatis Jr. home run before ultimately winning the contest after Jackson Merrill drove in the go-ahead run on an RBI single to left in the 11th inning.
Considering both teams ranked inside the top-five in home runs entering Friday's game, it's not too surprising that they threw a home run party, but that didn't make it any less exciting.
The Dodgers and Padres are set to play two more contests at Dodger Stadium on Saturday and Sunday.
