Angels News: Another Strong Competitor For Blake Snell Emerges

Can the Angels cross the finish line with Snell?

The Los Angeles Angels offseason has been one of missing out. While the front office has brought in more talent to the team this winter, they have also missed out on multiple big-name players they were linked with.

Losing two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani to the Los Angeles Dodgers was the first major blow to the offseason, but they haven't been able to come to terms with the big-ticket players. One name that has been heavily connected with the Halos all offseason is starting pitcher Blake Snell.

Snell won the National League Cy Young Award last season while with the San Diego Padres but remains unsigned as Spring Training gets into the thick of things. He reportedly has wanted a high price for his services, and no team has met it as of yet.

The Angels would love to have Snell enter their rotation, as he would give them a true ace to work with. But it seems that they may have their work cut out to land him, as another strong competitor has emerged.

According to Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle, the San Francisco Giants are "very much" still in on Snell. The Giants just signed third baseman Matt Chapman, who was also liked with the Angels, but it hasn't taken them out of the Snell sweepstakes.

If Snell were to head to San Francisco, it would be another top player to slip away from the Angels. The team wants to be more competitive next season, so adding someone like Snell would do the trick.

Owner Arte Moreno has been fairly hesitant to shell out large free-agent deals to pitchers, but Snell should be the exception. He would vastly improve their rotation and allow the fanbase to celebrate a big signing after losing their franchise player.
