The Angels Get Devastating News on Injured Luis Rengifo; Season Over

The Halos lose one of their best hitters.

A season full of untimely injuries continues for the Angels as one of the team's best remaining players is hitting the injured list indefinitely.

The Halos placed infielder Luis Rengifo on the 10-day IL on Saturday. Rengifo suffered a bicep tendon rupture which will keep him out through the conclusion of the season.

This injury came when Rengifo was playing like one of the top players in the league.

Just last week Rengifo won the American League Player of the Week after hitting .440 in his previous six games.

During those six games, Rengifo also put up a 1.207 OPS with three home runs and seven RBIs.

Three days following receiving the announcement that he won Player of the Week, Rengifo went down while taking practice swings in the on-deck circle.

Going into his injury, Rengifo was top 25 in the MLB in WAR dating back to July 1st.

In the year, Rengifo was having one of the best years of his 5-year career. He was hitting .264 and was one home run and RBI shy of setting career highs in both categories.

Rengifo is second on the Angels in batting average and on-base percentage and has hit the fifth most home runs on the team.

With him out, on top of the Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout injuries, the Angels offense has to finish the season without its top players.

While the Angels season was already a disappointment, things are somehow still getting worse for them.

As Sarah Valenzuela of the LA Times noted in the tweet above, the utility man should have a mostly regular offseason.
