Angels News: Mike Moustakas Shows Love to Colorado After Timely Trade to LA

In this story:

The Los Angeles Angles made two huge trades this past weekend, acquiring two infielders. The first came on Friday when they traded for Mets infielder Eduardo Escobar. It was a surprise, but the Halos are in a win-now scenario, and that trade came without hesitation.

However, the Halos weren't done there. After the Halos' historic win on Saturday, they traded with the Rockies' acquiring infielder Mike Moustakas. The veteran infielder will greatly help the team as he will bring leadership and playoff experience to the squad.

It's been a long road for the 34-year-old as he was released by the Cincinnati Reds before the start of the season after he signed a $22 million in the 2019-2020 offseason.

The Rockies gave him a shot before the 2023 season, signing him to a minor league deal. He eventually made his way to the major league team and contributed to a lonely Rockies team. He will now make his way to the Angels, and while speaking to the Halos media, he thanked the Rockies' organization for giving him another shot.

“You know, they gave me an opportunity to come back and play Major League Baseball this year, and I’ll be forever grateful for that,” Moustakas said in a tip of the cap to the Rockies’ organization, which received minor league right-handed pitcher Connor Van Scoyoc in the trade. “Obviously, we didn’t play as well as we should have and wanted to, but that’s a great group of guys that’s going to be a good team in the future."

Moustakas only played in 47 games with Colorado, but without them, who knows where he'd be now? Now, he will be with a contending team, and he's looking forward to it.

“That being said, that’s kind of part of the business that we’re in, and I get to come over here, make some new friends and join a contender. It’s exciting, man. We all play this game to win.”

The Angels are in the thick of things in the playoff run, and it looks like it'll stay that way. It's going to be a tight race as the season winds down, and hopefully, Moustakas contributes in a big way down the stretch.
