The Houston Astros could be looking for a new manager if Dusty Baker is swayed to the New York Mets this offseason.

The New York Mets were by far the biggest disappointment of the 2023 MLB season after having "won" the offseason.

Come the 2023 MLB trade deadline, the Mets shed a ton of their record payroll in hopes to reset and try again in 2024.

Then they let Buck Showalter go and are now left without a captain steering the ship.

Plenty of names have popped up as to who could take the helm in New York and one of the top names that has been thrown around is current Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker.

In fact, according to the New York Post, Baker is at the very top of the list of potential candidates.

Here is what the NY Post has to say about a potential fit between Baker and the Mets.

"He’s done it all and headed for the Hall, but word is he’s continuing to be frustrated by battles with the Houston front office over analytics (their love of it, his skepticism). He does apparently make out the lineup cards and is still playing Martin Maldonado every day when the front office surely prefers the better hitting Yainer Diaz. Cooperstown-bound but may not fit the analytically driven Mets."

It appears Baker has had the handcuffs put on him in recent seasons despite winning the World Series last year and managing his team to their seventh-consecutive ALCS. Questions have lingered about how long the 74-year-old plans to continue managing and remaining in the game.

However, as long as he does he will also be a top option for any team looking for a manager. Including his current team the Astros.

Baker joining the Mets is a long shot, but one has to imagine he is on their radar.
