Blue Jays Prospect Sean Keys Begging for Another Chance at Big Leagues

The Toronto Blue Jays might be in need of some power and that power is sitting in Buffalo.

In this story:

The Toronto Blue Jays have a lot to be excited about in their young talent which is being fully demonstrated by a slew of rookies who are coming up big for the ballclub this season, but there is one prospect who is forcing their hand for another call-up, Sean Keys.

Now, Keys has already experienced his big-league shot as he made his major league debut at the end of June this season, and he even logged a couple of hits to complement two RBIs. But it wasn't enough to keep him up with the Blue Jays.

However, Toronto is in desperate need of some slug this season, and with how well he has been doing down in Buffalo, he is forcing their hand to give him another shot to prove just that.

The Jays have leaned heavily on rookies all season all long especially as of late, highlighted by Charles McAdoo, Kazuma Okamoto, and Daz Cameron. So, why not give another one a chance here soon? Especially when the team starts to face some subpar foes after this series against the New York Yankees.

The Jays will not face another winning ballclub, as of now, in the final five weeks of the season. So, if there is a chance for Keys to build some confidence at the plate against some stiffer competition, it is now.

Keys Absolutely Demolishing Triple-A Pitching With the Bisons

In August, it is impossible to ignore how well Keys has been demoralizing pitching staffs, highlighted by his two-home-run game on Friday to complement five RBI, but it wasn't like this recent game has been an anomaly by any means.

This month, Keys is hitting a monstrous .338, which is nothing compared to his near .700 slugging percentage, which has his OPS well over 1.100 as the Bisons continue to roll behind his bat. This is the time that the front office has to give him a shot, as there isn't much more for him to prove at the minor league level.

One thing is for certain in baseball: if a player can hit, they have a spot in the lineup. That being said, Keys has a lot of power down in the minor leagues, and even though his very small sample with Toronto doesn't show that, it might be time to give him another shot against big league pitching.

Ultimately, Keys is a first baseman, so his path to a consistent spot is blocked by Vladimir Guerrero Jr., but if his future is with the Blue Jays it could definitely be as a designated hitter, as he clearly has a lot of power in his bat.
