Braves Briefing: Sean Murphy is NL Player of the Week, welcome Red Sox

The Atlanta Braves enjoyed a Monday off after winning two out of three against the Baltimore Orioles. Tonight, they start a short two-game homestand against the surging Boston Red Sox, who are 21-15 on the season but a hot 8-2 in the last 10 games played.

Sean Murphy is the NL Player of the Week

The new Braves catcher is playing like the best in all of baseball. Sean Murphy hit .360 on the week, three home runs, and 12 RBIs.

On the season, Murphy has 29 hits, nine home runs, 28 RBIs, and a .282 average in 2023. He is second in all of baseball in both slugging (.621) and OPS (1.048), behind only Oakland A's rookie sensation Brent Rooker (.681/1.122) in both categories.

We wrote it

Braves Today's Dan Strickland wrote about catcher Travis d’Arnaud being activated.

d’Arnaud has been on the concussion IL since April 8 when he was part of a violent collision at home plate against the San Diego Padres. His return to the Braves roster adds even more depth to an already very deep lineup.

Catcher Chadwick Tromp was sent down in a corresponding move, meaning that d'Arnaud will catch as well as play DH, adding to the logjam of playtime at DH and, consequently, the outfield. Look for more about that from us today.

How to watch the Braves

First pitch on Tuesday is at 7:00 PM ET, and the telecast is a national broadcast, with restrictions: Inside the Braves market, it's with Voice of the Braves Brandon Gaudin on Bally Sports South, but the rest of the country will get Bob Costas and Ron Darling calling the game on TBS. The radio call, with Ben Ingram, is available locally on WIFN 1340 AM/103.7FM or outside the Atlanta market on the Atlanta Braves Radio Network or MLB.com.
