Braves Briefing: Atlanta thanks Michael Soroka after trading him to Chicago

The Atlanta Braves sent off some pieces Thursday night in order to add Aaron Bummer from the Chicago White Sox.

The Braves gave up RHP Michael Soroka, LHP Jared Shuster, INF Nicky Lopez, INF Braden Shewmake, and RHP Riley Gowens.

Soroka was a fan favorite in Atlanta but his battle to return to his 2019 form after injury has proved to be difficult. Perhaps a new setting and team will be good for the young pitcher.

Atlanta put out a thank you message via social media after moving Soroka.

The Rome Braves are now the Rome Emperors and I am here for it. The overall reaction to their name change announcement last night has been received positively.

The tribute to the emperors of Rome in combination with the emperor penguins is everything I want in a mascot and logo.

How long until pitchers and catchers report?

87 days. Atlanta's expected to ask pitchers and catchers to report on Monday, February 12th, in advance of their first spring training game on February 24th against the Tampa Bay Rays. An official announcement of the reporting date will come in January.
