Pitching Matchup
Starting for the Braves is Bryce Elder. The righty has faced the Marlins four times in his young career, all last season, going 0-2 with a 2.78 ERA in 22.2 career innings with 25 strikeouts. This season he's been one of the best pitchers in baseball since being called up as an injury replacement, 2-0 with a 1.14 ERA in his four starts on the season. He's allowed runs in only one of his four starts, going 5.1 innings against the Royals on April 15th with eight hits and two runs. Outside of that one outing, he's scoreless in his other 18.1 innings with thirteen hits and seventeen strikeouts against the Astros, Reds, and Cardinals.
Opposing Atlanta is Marlins ace Sandy Alcantra. He skipped a start last week with a mild case of biceps tendinitis, but reportedly is feeling good for tonight. He's struggled so far this season, going 1-2 with a 5.47 ERA, but has historically pitched well against the Braves. In his 10 career appearances, he's 4-2 with a 2.42 ERA. including throwing a complete game last year in which he gave up six hits and no earned runs on May 22nd.
