Yankees Reportedly Linked To Cardinals Superstar In Potential Trade Deadline Deal

Could the Cardinals actually deal one of their superstars?

The 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline is quickly approaching and rumors are running rampant across baseball.

The St. Louis Cardinals have been in the news lately as the club decides what path it will take ahead of the deadline. St. Louis has been a major disappointment this season and is in last place in the National League Central, but has won four of its last five games. The Cardinals likely will be sellers unless something big changes with the club, but the team likely won't deal superstar duo Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado as the team hopes to contend in 2024.

Although this is the case, there still has been plenty of rumors. This is unsurprising as any club likely would want to have Goldschmit or Arenado, but both likely aren't going anywhere. One club that has been linked as a possible destination for Arenado if St. Louis opts for a full rebuild would be the New York Yankees, according to The Athletic's Jim Bowden.

"A dream acquisition for the Bronx Bombers would be Nolan Arenado to play third base, or as former Yankees captain Derek Jeter pointed out on the Fox broadcast during All-Star coverage, a trade for Juan Soto," Bowden said. "Suffice to say, both players would be difference-makers. But it’s highly unlikely the Cardinals will trade Arenado and the same can be said of the Padres and Soto, at least for now.

Arenado has had his name in trade rumors over the last month but has made it known that he would like to remain in St. Louis. The star third baseman also has a no-trade clause, so a deal would be even tougher. Unsurprisingly, rumors have been flowing about the Cardinals' star duo as the club has mightily struggled, but they likely won't be going anywhere this season.
