Diamondbacks Minor League Report 4/21/2023

In this story:
The Diamondbacks minor league affiliates combined for a 2-1 record. Reno's game against Salt Lake was postponed due to rain and will be made up tomorrow in a seven-inning doubleheader.
Double-A: Amarillo Sod Poodles 0, NW Arkansas Travelers 5; 7-6
Ryan Bliss had two more hits in this game the night after seeing his nine-game hitting streak snapped. That pushed his average north of .400 once again. However, the main concern with Bliss is a 10/0 strikeout to walk ratio. The main test moving forward will be if he can be a productive hitter when the hits aren't falling in for him.
Jordan Lawlar had his first legitimately bad game at the plate, failing to reach base at least once via hit or walk for the first time this season. While the .238 batting average might lead some to consider the D-backs No. 3 prospect as struggling, it is not the case as he's reached base in 11 of 12 games to start the season.
High-A: Hillsboro Hops 3, Eugene Emeralds 5; 6-6
Dylan Ray allowed four runs in 5.1 innings, allowing five hits without issuing a walk and striking out seven. While carrying an impressive 19/2 strikeout to walk ratio and a .192 opponent batting average, the key will be to limit the amount of damage within an inning moving forward.
Ivan Melendez was hit in the head by a pitch in the fourth inning and was immediately replaced by Shane Muntz. The D-backs No. 10 prospect already had his season delayed with a hand issue, so this is another bad break. At the minimum, Melendez will be under concussion protocol. We'll update tomorrow if this requires a stint on the injured list.
Low-A: Visalia Rawhide 13, Stockton Ports 3; 7-6
Andrew Pintar had a big game offensively, with two hits in four at-bats, including a three-run homer that broke the game open. He was pulled defensively in the seventh inning for Luis Rubio as a defensive sub with Visalia up 10 runs.
Alvin Guzman homered for the second game in a row. Yesterday it was a three run shot in the ninth inning that iced an 8-2 win while today it was a sixth inning home run that put Visalia up 10. He has shown an improvement in power this season, but comes with an extreme strikeout rate of 40.9%.
