The MLB Draft Combine was started ahead of the 2021 MLB Draft, used as a means for prospects to potentially boost their stock ahead of the draft. Players who participate in the combine are entitled to no less than 75% of their draft pick slot value. One such example was Ivan Melendez, the D-backs' second round pick in last year's draft. Melendez signed for $1.4 million vs. the pick value of $1.8 million.
For D-backs fans, it's a chance to get a look at players who could be selected by Arizona in July's draft. Chase Field has hosted previous prospect showcases, with the Perfect Game National Showcase in 2019 and the PG All-American Classic last August. For the teams, it's one last opportunity to get a workout of the players and to check medicials ahead of the draft.
The 2023 MLB Draft will likely take place on July 9th, the Sunday before the All-Star game. Arizona holds the 12th overall selection in the draft.
