Dodgers Notes: Gonsolin Tommy John Reactions, RIP to a Legend, Lynn's Future Becoming Clearer

In this story:
The Dodgers added to their incredible August by picking up win number 22 of the month. Bobby Miller outlasted D-Backs ace Zac Gallen to pick up his 8th win of the year.
The big news of the day involved right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin who is set to undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the 2024 season. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts talked about Tony's long battle with his health this season and shared some interesting nuggets with reporters.
- “We knew he was dealing with elbow issues but there was a point where he felt he could pitch and get Major League hitters out ... until he couldn’t. Talking to the doctors, we felt it was time to do, I guess, what was at some point inevitable.”
- “There is nothing that an MRI showed after his last start that was worse, which caused the Tommy John. He felt like he could keep pitching, and, to be quite honest, he could still pitch right now,” Roberts said. “But it just wasn’t productive."
- "With all pitchers, I’m assuming that there’s always some damage or tears. Some guys can pitch through it, which Tony did."
Roberts admitted that the way the club utilized Gonsolin this season was necessitated by a myriad of injuries in the starting rotation all year long. There was no definitive moment where anyone feels the injury happened or got worse.
Our thoughts go out to Tony and we hope for a speedy recovery.
In other news, an MLB lifer and Dodgers front office member passed away on Monday. Former catcher and long-time baseball coach Pat Corrales passed away at the age of 82 after 64 years in the game. Dodgers historian Mark Langill wrote up a wonderful piece on the life and legacy of Corrales, which can be found here on Dodger Insider.
Finally, this is just a little thought exercise. SI's Noah Camras wondered on Twitter if the loss of Gonsolin changes the potential direction the Dodgers may take with Lance Lynn in the offseason. Looking ahead, the club will need some veteran rotation help next season.
Tony Gonsolin's Tommy John makes Lance Lynn's situation very interesting.

Lynn has an $18 million option for next season and has a 2.03 ERA in 5 starts with LA.
With Gonsolin and Dustin May likely out next season, the Dodgers will definitely have to consider bringing Lynn back. https://t.co/aGMAp9XN8Y
