The Los Angeles Dodgers took a shot at Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Max Scherzer during Game 2 of the World Series.

Scherzer, who played half a season with the Dodgers in 2021, earned the nickname Mad Max with his intense attitude on the mound during his Hall of Fame career. He has recorded 3,489 strikeouts throughout his 18-season career, winning three Cy Young awards and two World Series championships.

In Game 2 of the Dodgers series against Scherzer's Blue Jays, third baseman Max Muncy took Toronto's Kevin Gausman deep in the top of the seventh inning, giving the Dodgers a 3-1 lead. Muncy has fantastic career numbers against the right-hander, batting .333 with four home runs against Gausman in his career.

After his home run, the Dodgers posted on X (formerly Twitter) about the home run.

"WILL THE REAL MAD MAX PLEASE STAND UP?!" their caption read.

The Dodgers went on to secure a 5-1 win, evening the series behind a solid effort on the hill from starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who threw his second consecutive complete game this postseason.

LA returns home for the next three games, and looks to gain a significant advantage in the series with the home crowd behind them.

Scherzer will pitch against the Dodgers in Game 3 of the series, and will look to fire back at the Dodgers after their post. Scherzer has good numbers in the postseason, and even better numbers against the Dodgers.

He has played in 11 postseasons, posting a 3.75 ERA in 31 starts in October. He has made 19 starts against the Dodgers in his career, and has a 2.38 ERA with 119 strikeouts in 109.2 innings pitched.

The right-hander has made just one appearance this postseason, pitching 5.2 innings during the ALCS against the Seattle Mariners. He allowed two earned runs, striking out five batters in his outing.

With the series even, the Dodgers will look to claim their first lead of the World Series in front of their home fans, and gain some momentum for the following games. Tyler Glasnow will start Game 3 for the Dodgers, and look to keep his solid postseason record intact. Game 3 begins Monday at 5:00 p.m. PT.
