The SF Giants were concerned designated hitter Joc Pederson would be out for an extended period of time after he was hit by a pitch on his right hand during Friday night's 7-5 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. However, an X-ray on Pederson's hand came back negative, per MLB.com Giants beat writer Maria Guardado. While he is out of the lineup for Saturday's game, he is day-to-day and should return to the lineup without a stint on the injured list.

Pederson has already had one stint on the injured list this season when he dealt with left wrist inflammation in Mid-April. When healthy, Pederson is easily one of the Giants' most formidable hitters, particularly against right-handed pitchers. Pederson received his second-career All-Star selection last season, his first with the Giants, hitting .274/.353/.521 with 23 home runs in 134 games (433 plate appearances). In 97 plate appearances this season, Pederson has a .235/.351/.494 with five home runs.

With Mike Yastrzemski currently on the injured list with a hamstring strain, the SF Giants are already missing one of their most potent left-handed bats on the roster. While Joc Pederson is out of Saturday's lineup after he was hit on the hand by a pitch, he avoided a fracture and should return to the field soon.
