Two Unlikely Home Runs Lift Guardians Over Twins
It's been well-documented during the season that the Cleveland Guardians have struggled to hit home runs. They still have hit the least amount of home runs in baseball and at one point this season were projected to hit under 100 by the end of the season.
But the Guardians still have the ability to hit home runs when given the opportunity. They were given the chance against the Twins on Saturday night and didn't miss it defying all odds.
Will Brennan
The Twins started Sonny Gray, who's been one of the best pitchers in all of baseball through the first third of the season. He had an ERA of 1.94 heading into the start and has done a fantastic job limiting damage on the base paths. Especially through the long ball.
Gray hadn't given up a home runs all season until Will Brennan took him deep in the seventh inning with a two-run homer. Brennan has been locked in as of late and this homerun off Gray further proves that.
This go-ahead homer also gave Cleveland the lead in a crucial game.
Steven Kwan
Steven Kwan has quickly made a name for himself as one of the best contact hitters in MLB. As good of a hitter, as he is, Kwan doesn't hit a lot of home runs. He only had six in his rookie season and ranks in the fourth percentile in average exit velocity and the 18th percentile in max exit velocity.
But the Gold Glove outfielder put a jolt in a pitch in the ninth inning to give Cleveland a huge insurance run which helped them win the game.
