21 straight! Indians set new American League record for consecutive wins; three takeaways

CLEVELAND-- Only this Indians squad can make chasing history look so easy.
The Cleveland Indians won their 21st consecutive on Wednesday afternoon, topping the Detroit Tigers, 5-3. A crowd of just over 29,000 was in attendance to take in the historic game.
The win pushes the Tribe past the 2002 "Moneyball" Oakland Athletics for longest winning streak in American League history.
The Kansas City Royals are coming to town as the Indians look for their 22nd straight win, but before tomorrow night's game, here are our three takeaways from the 21st.
1. Bruce and Berto Bombs
Jay Bruce delivered yet another pretty clutch home run on Wednesday afternoon.
For just the second time in the last 21 games, the Indians did not get on the board first, as Detroit's Jeimer Candelario recorded an RBI double in the top of the first to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
That lead would not last long, however. After Francisco Lindor made it on base with a double in the lead-off spot and Jose Ramirez drew a walk, Bruce came to the plate with two outs and knock a homer to left field that bounced just in front of the bleacher railing.
Following a crew-chief review, the initial ruling on the field was upheld, and the Indians had a 3-1 lead.
Bruce now has 34 homers on the year, matching his single-season career-high, and five homers since joining the team in August.
After the Tigers started to mount a comeback with two runs in the top of the sixth to narrow Cleveland's lead to just one run, 4-3, Roberto Perez delivered a crucial homer of his own.
On an 0-2 pitch, Perez launched a solo shot to center field to get the insurance run. Perez has been on a tear during this streak, and has hit four of his six home runs this year during the last 21 games.
2. Clevinger's Detroit Dominance
Mike Clevinger had another strong outing against the Tigers. He is now 4-0 with a 0.76 ERA against Detroit for the season.
On Wednesday he gave up six hits, one earned run and two walks. He also struck out six batters in his five and two-thirds innings of work.
During the win streak, Clevinger is now 4-0 with a 0.38 ERA, and has also held opponents to a .186 batting average. The starting pitchers have combined for 19 wins during this stretch.
Clevinger is now 10-5 for the year.
3. 21 is fun
With their 21st consecutive win, the Indians have set a new American League record for consecutive wins. They also tie the 1935 Chicago Cubs for the second-longest winning streak in Major League Baseball history.
The most stunning part of these games is the way that this team continues to dismantle opponents. They now have +104 run differential, and have outscored opponents 139-35-- that's an average of 6.6 runs per game.
The Indians have trailed for a total of four innings during these 21 games, and today was also just the second time that the Tribe has not scored first during the streak.
There's not much else we can say about this team that hasn't already been said, but we have all gotten to witness a truly historical moment.
